Flying Tips: Flying has always been one of the more stressful parts of a vacation. Today with increased security it's important that you always arrive early to the airport and expect delays. For domestic flights we recommend you arrive 2 hours before your scheduled departure. When traveling internationally arrive 3 hours before your flight.
Call or check online with the airlines the night before your scheduled departure to reconfirm flight times. Airline Contact Information Limit your carry-ons and always keep your important documents close at hand (tickets, passports, identification, and currency). Keep at least one change of clothes in your carry on if possible, as well as any important medications you will need for the trip. Make sure you keep all medications in their original containers.
Packing Tips: Packing for your cruise or vacation is often full of decision making…you want to bring it all! Save your back by using wheeled hardsided luggage. The extra investment in quality luggage will go a long way in avoiding mishaps as well as protecting your clothing from the trials of travel. Make sure all your luggage can be locked and have two sets of keys. Note that during travel many air carriers will not want you to lock your suitcase to allow for security inspections. Label all suitcases and make them standout from the others by using ribbons, colorful bows, or bumper stickers! Keep a copy of all your important documents hidden (passport, tickets, prescriptions, and important phone numbers) inside your suit cases. It's also a good idea to leave a copy of this information at home with a family member or friend. When traveling as a couple put at least one change of clothes in your partners suitcase should one piece of luggage get misplaced during your flight you will be able to make due for a day or two.

Currency Tips: How much money to take is a matter of personal preference. We recommend a mixture of travelers checks, cash, and at least one major credit card. Most places in the world now have ATMs so if extra cash is needed just locate the nearest kiosk. Of course you will need to have your PIN number(s) so make sure you have them memorized. If traveling internationally the currency exchange at a ATM is usually at the best rate. Check with your bank before leaving for their specific rules. Don't convert a large amount of money to foreign currency before you go, it's simple enough to do that on the ship or in the country you visit. You can find out about conversion rates at your local bank or click on
Conversion Checker.
Destination Tips: When traveling to the more exotic and foreign vacation destinations take a minute to update yourself on any travel warnings or restrictions. Go to
The Bureau of Consular Affairs to find out more about the safety concerns for your exotic destination. To get an update about health restrictions, necessary vaccines and health warnings go to
Center for Disease Control. For many vacationers it's wise to get a routine physical from your primary physician before embarking on any extended vacation outside the country.
Electricity Tips: Most cruise ships will allow you to use electric razors, hair dryers, and battery chargers that work on 110 volts (U.S. Standard). However, Europe and other countries will require you to pack voltage converters to use your U.S. purchased products. If you have questions about what electrical devices will work for you and other general travel information go to
